[HUMAN] Kal Merash Empty [HUMAN] Kal Merash

Post  kairiocean Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:20 pm

Name: Kal Merash (the name given to him by the merfolk)

Other Names: Rupert Mason (the name his parents intended for him)

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Appearance: About 6’ 1”; Kal is very long and lean. He has wide feet with large toes and toenails, and large hands. Hard muscle grips to his arms and legs, and he has a long torso with very distinguished abs. This physical training comes from living most of his life as a swimmer when that was not his original destiny. His skin is very tan and freckled. Kal has soft, very thick, blond hair with golden sunstreaks. As for his face, his nose isn’t very long and ends in a bulbous, pug shaped nose that is slightly upturned. His eyes are large, the iris’s a brilliant light blue that has ripples of very light color woven through the blue like the sun playing across the bottom of a shallow pool. His blond eyelashes are long and thick. Kal has a large, sloping forehead that his long bangs barely cover, his hair coming down to his round ears. His lips are thin and a slightly tanner color than the rest of his skin. He has a wide smile.

His clothing as of now consists of nothing but a gurney sack turned loincloth.

Personality:

On the surface, Kal Merash is generally cheerful. He laughs easy, has the rare ability to be able to strike up conversations with absolute strangers, and is seemingly a happy-go-lucky guy without a care in the world. He loves adrenaline and is the kind of guy to go cliff diving and wrestle sharks, and is curious to a fault, knowing little of the world outside his lagoon.

However don’t let his easy going façade fool you. Kal posses a sheer unyielding will, a strong sense of justice, and a dream. Yes, I should have mentioned this before, Kal is a dreamer. He has fiery dreams as big as the moon and twice as impossible to reach, but it does not squash his determination. Anyone to disregard or look in contempt upon these dreams can quickly anger him. When mad, Kal is sharp, unreasonable, and prone to violence if the offense is serious. What are these dreams you may ask? Kal dreams of leaving Neverland. Of escaping to the world beyond.

Besides his dreams, Kal’s other important qualities shine through in friendship. While Kal can talk to anyone easily, it takes a lot for them to become a “true friend”. When he does find real friendship, he is intensely loyal and would even give his life for them.

He is good with his hands, very physical, and a better swimmer than he is a walker. On land he is rather clumsy. Kal carries no sentiments about religion, royalty, killing animals, or the affairs of Neverland. He considers himself in a perhaps naive and selfish way to be his own agent, apart from his homeland because he knows he comes from somewhere else.

History:

Sixteen year’s prior to the present day, a steel research freighter picked up a bearing and a range of bizarre coordinates from an unidentified “island” as a tiny blip upon a sonar sounding that was accidentally directed at the heavens. The rich and curious couple who owned and operated the freighter were on their way back to England, as the wife was in the middle of her third trimester of her pregnancy.

Intrigued, she instead insisted they follow the bearing and see if the high tech equipment was giving an accurate reading. Three day’s later they fell into a maelstrom that was not detected on any of their equipment. The shadow’s had weakened the bonds between the worlds in a intense moment of darkness and the ship had fallen into a parallel passage to Neverland.

When the ship was wrecked upon a cove, all the adults died upon entrance to Neverland, the exposure to the magic to strong on their older, scientific minded bodies. Except for the women. Carrying an innocent child in her womb, she lasted a week with the fruit and shelter the tree’s provided. After giving birth to a healthy boy, she too slipped into oblivion.

The baby lay screaming on the sand, and one of the shy merpeople who lived beneath the lagoons waters, heard its cries. A merwoman who had lost her child to a hammerhead shark just a week ago, stricken by a mothers grief, and driven by natures need to suckle an infant, rose to the surface, the cries of the babe ringing out across the water.

She suckled him upon the beach, and drinking the milk of a mermaid, the babe was prevented from falling prey to the curse that prevented human’s from aging, and instead, was infused with the nutrition of a merbabe.

After that she brought him into the water, being sure to keep his head afloat. The babe did not cry, the water was warm and soothing, and the wind cool as the sun set in brilliant orange rays.

She slept afloat all night, to be discovered by the marking and a crowd of others the next morning. There was a bitter struggle amongst the merpeople as to what to do with the babe. Most argued that it could never be one of them, and cried to have in abandoned to it’s death. Maysha, as the name of the mermaid was, defended him as strongly as if he had been her own, and eventually it was decided that he must be kept. He had drank Maysha’s milk, he was one of them, however many hated the decision, they did not contest the kings decision who most all respected to be strong and fair.

Maysha raised him in the lagoon and on the beaches and rocks their. Her village resided at the bottom of the lagoon so she was never far from curious eyes. Kal, as she named him, grew. He took to the water like second nature learning to swim even in infancy. He learned to swim as babies learn to walk, and eventually could spend quite a bit of time at the bottom of the lagoon, going up and down.

As he grew into adolescence, he grew to be able to hold his breath for a minute at a time, and swim better than he could walk, in fact, it was only when he was seven that his curiosities was spiked to get out of the water and learn to walk. Their was a stream that entered the lagoon that he drank fresh water from, but other than that his diet consisted mostly of seafood, caught with his bare hands. Fruit as food, again, he only learned after discovering walking.

Kal was treated as an outcast from his adopted people for a long time, even as he learned to speak underwater (no mean feat as it requires diverting air out of your nose in order to form words clearly). But Kal possessed something the other merpeople did not, legs.

Although a terrible setback for him in the water (though he learned to still be exceedingly fast without a tail) his legs allowed him to do terribly dangerous and ever so popular feats of cliff diving and wrestling sharks. The sharks he rode, digging his toes into its gills to suffocate it as he stabbed the delicious delicacy with his makeshift sharktooth knife.

His popularity was distant though, he was more of a celebrity than a member of the teen merpeople group. He was different from them, and his minute breath holding was only enough to get him almost to the gates of the mer-city before he had to turn back and stroke for the surface again, unable to join his friends in actually being a part of the merpeople society.

There was something he had for himself though, when he was learning to walk, he discovered the remaining wreckage of the ship a little way’s in the trees. Mostly broken bits of technology that intrigued Kal to no end. The real treasure however, was a tight wooden crate that carried (unknown to him) a good portion his parents scientific library. Then Kal pried open the boards and removed the books, he exposed himself to a trove on knowledge.

Unable to read the slightly ran text that filled the books, he instead devoured pictures of ships, towns, cars, and people like him with two legs who dressed in strange clothes. While Kal did not understand these images at first, he went through every book and puzzled about it. Eventually he determined that, since this was where he came from, he must leave for it. He must find out what the funny symbols meant, and with that knowledge (he was sure) find a way back to wherever this place was, with wondrous machines and people. Promising his doting mother he would return soon, Kal set off along the shore, searching for someone who might show him the answers.
